'Les Glorieuses de Bresse' poultry contest
Bresse poultry contest (capon, poularde chickens, chickens and turkeys) where prizes are awarded to the very best breeders. Poultry market in the afternoon.
Event held in partnership with the Confrérie des Poulardiers de Bresse and the Groupe Folklorique Pontévallois.
The very first edition of this poultry contest dates back to the 24th December 1865 in Pont-de-Vaux. The breeders of Bresse enter their best trussed-up birds and are judged by a jury of experts, professionals and chefs. The producers of the best birds will receive the Grands Prix d'Honneur (prizes of honour).
After the prize-giving ceremony, there is a market where the fine birds of Bresse are sold. Chickens, capons, turkeys and poularde chickens are on sale, much to the delight of food lovers and experts.
There are 3 other such competitions in Bresse, in Bourg-en-Bresse, Montrevel-en-Bresse and Louhans.
